About a year and a half ago, we shared with you the unbelievable story of Jerome Yisrael Porwelos, the youngest son in the Porwelos family, who was born in Israel to Filipino parents who received permanent resident status in 2007, when Jerome stayed with his grandmother in the Philippines, temporarily, due to the family’s financial problems. Since Jerome was not in Israel when his parents and brothers received the status, when he returned to Israel – it was decided to deport him to the Philippines.
Thanks to Adv. Chen Weiss from our office, who filed an appeal with the Court of Appeals with an order to prevent his deportation, it was decided to return his case for a renewed examination by the Population Authority. Today, the Population Authority approved Jerome’s humanitarian request and granted him a residence and humanitarian work visa that will allow him to continue living with his beloved family and friends and to work in the profession he acquired here during his studies at a culinary school, with the hopes that later on he will be given an identity card and will be able to enlist in the army like everyone else.
